Denny and Carrie Martin have been missionaries in Guatemala since 2000. They have settled in Guatemala City and are working with a church there. Denny spends much of his time doing leadership training with some hand-selected men. Carrie has built relationships with women in the church and is teaching them by example and through study about life in God's family.

Denny and Carrie, while not an official part of Vancouver church's missions program, and loved and supported by many in our midst. They spent about 5 years in the 1990's as part of our congregation while Denny was attending Northwest College of the Bible. He graduated in 1998 and spent some time working in Vancouver and in Manteca, CA before leaving for Central America.

The Martins plan to spend at least 4 more years in Guatemala. In the summer of 2007, the Guatemala church started building its own facility. They ask for prayers for the church there and for their own continued adjustment. They also ask for prayers of blessing on the people they love who are being persecuted by organized crime groups. Extortion, blackmail, and death threats are becoming more common as corruption increases in Guatemala City.
